Thanks, I'm thinking of making it just an outlet. The sconce is a combination lamp/outlet with the outlet on the bottom. If I put the sconce on the wall where the wire is it would be only about a foot...

There is a door at the front that I haven't installed yet. Thanks to you I'm going to unscrew the plywood and make access door on top just like you said. Great idea!

It looks like that hinge screws in underneath but allows it to open "upwards". Is that what a piano hinge is?

I didn't have the hinge installed yet in that picture.  This is an earlier Scotty rebuild, but shows the hinge installed. On this one I used two 30" piano hinges because they didn't have a 72" one...
